The Rubicon was sporting Bushwhacker flares, and Runck Side Rails. Observers questioned our sanity when we started removing parts off this rig.
 
The 2005 Rubicon had already benefitted from numerous upgrades. A BDS 4.5 “ Ultimate Suspension kit, a 4.89 gear swap, Edge Jammer kit and Banks header and tuned exhaust system to mention a few.

Steve Wilhoite had decided the Rubi was ready for some trail action, but he wanted to make sure the Jeep and its occupants were properly protected. The Warn bumpers in front and outback had those areas sufficiently covered. The old trail dogs at POR listened intently to Steve’s request and then went to work.

Roy Carl is a lifelong Jeep and off-road enthusiast who spends too much time working and too little time 'wheelin'.

Our pals at Poison Spyder helped us out by taking enough time away from the celebrity trail-riding tour to fab up some tube fenders, rocker guards and rear corners.
The initial test fit on the left rear corner went very well. The part was clamped into place so that the holes could be drilled into the body tub.
First we removed the flares, lights, fuel filler, license plate bracket and everything else we thought would be in our way.
All the locations were center-punched prior to drilling. This ensured proper fitment without any grinding.
All wiring, lines and hoses need to be located and considered before drilling the required holes.
Several of the body mounts need to be modified. The process requires removing the “dome” off the top of the mounts. The one on the left has been shortened to accept the rocker guards.
With the corners in place it was time to fit the rocker guards. Several body mounts were removed and the others loosened to enable a fitment since the rocker guards sit on two of the body mounts.
With the rocker guards installed on the body mounts the holes can be center-punched and drilled.
